Dr. Govil is a former Professor of Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery at Christian Medical College, Vellore. He is the first Lister Fellow in Pancreatic Surgery from the Royal Infirmary, Glasgow, UK. He trained in Hepatobiliary Surgery at King's College Hospital, London and subsequently did a Traveling Fellowship in Live Donor Liver Transplantation in Hong Kong and Japan. He was instrumeantal in setting up the Liver Transplant programme in CMC Hospital, Vellore and set-up the first ongoing Liver Transplant programme in Karnataka at Narayana Hrudayalaya. He performed the first successful adult live donor liver transplant in Tamil Nadue and Karnataka. His special interests include treatment of hilar biliary obstruction, hepatocellular carcinoma and decompensated liver disease.
